In Geometry we will be studying area, perimeter and volume. We will also learn how to convert measurements.
Perimeter
Perimeter is the distance around a closed geometric shape. Perimeter is the how long the distance is around a shape. Think of a fence that goes around a garden. If you took that fence laid it end to end you would have a line. The distance of that line would be the perimeter. That's why the unit used for perimeter is just the unit like inches, feet or centimeters. ( This will be important later)

Area
Area is the space occupied by a surface or a flat-shape. It's how much space is inside a shape. You find area by multiplying the length times width. Since you are multiplying 2 things, the units you use are square units. (it's a little 2 as an exponent.)

These games are both area and perimeter.

Volume
Volume is the amount of space that is taken up by a 3D object (like a rectangular prism). Sine we are dealing with 3 dimensions (width, length and height) our units are cubic units. Which means our exponent will always be a 3 when writing our units.

Measurement Conversions
If you ever plan to cook, measure, or build you will need to know how to change one unit of measure into another. Like, how many pints are in a quart? You will ask these types of questions in your future. Believe me.
When changing one unit into another (like pints to quarts) ask yourself-Am I going from a big unit to a smaller unit or a smaller unit into bigger unit? If I wanted to see how many inches are in a yard, I would be going from a small unit (an inch) to a bigger unit (a yard). Or if I wanted to change gallons into cups I would be going from a bigger unit into a smaller unit. Once you have figured this out, you will know if you need to multiply or divide the units.
Basic Conversion Rule:
To convert from a LARGER unit to a SMALLER unit...MULTIPLY
To convert from a SMALLER unit to a LARGER unit...DIVIDE
Example:
3 feet = ? inches
I am going from a big unit (feet) to a smaller unit (inches) so I will MULTIPLY.
I know there are 12 inches in 1 foot so I multiply 3 (feet) times 12 (since there's 12 inches in one foot.
My answer is there are 36 inches in 3 feet.
